VIDEO art journal with me #1 🥀

hello everyone! I hope you are all staying safe at home and healthy. Within the last weeks of being in a lockdown, I didn't feel creative at all. It was either the stress and anxiety from the major changes, or just the burnout and slump from finishing university. However, it has been a few weeks of rest and being rather lazy, and now I feel like I am ready to create again. So far I have been doing daily drawings on Instagram for a daily challenge for 30 days, and I will soon make a post about the journey of doing something for 30 days. In the meantime you can follow me on Instagram to see some more illustrations, drawing on paper and art journal inspiration. IG: printableartsunday Art journal with me ~ art journal ideas I have finally published my first art journal! Last year I was into bullet journaling, but I realized that I would rather use Google Calendar, and make art journal for thoughts and creative expression. I love how the spread turned out, especially the qu

Hi! How big is your apartment? I live with my boyfriend in a small space for 3 years now, and we have accumulated some small living place tips to share with you. Over the years we have redecorated out house, and now we finally love the look of it. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see a tour of our small studio apartment in Copenhagen! The apartment is a big room, with a corner kitchenette and a separate bathroom. It also has a balcony and a large window across the outside wall. We eat, sleep, work, study in the same room.

Small space living can feel very overcrowded

At the beginning of moving into a studio apartment, it felt pretty cramped and it felt like the smallest thing took so much place. We got our first furniture from walking around the neighbourhood and found some good pieces. Later on we bought everything else in IKEA and so far have been loving it. Also, thanks to our amazing friends, they have given some statement pieces to our apartment.

So, how can you make your small space into a cosy apartment where you will be happily living in?

5 tips for small space living

Big artwork on the walls

When it comes to small apartments, one of the key elements is the walls. Preferrably they should be white, as it allows to look brighter and therefore lighter and bigger. When it comes to walls, you don't want to make them too crowded with things. Rather choose a few statement pieces that would work well with the whole room, or do a gallery wall on one side, then leaving it as the key element of the room. Another tip is to put big artwork on the walls. Now, it might be a bit more expensive to print a large size and frame it, but you can also find some good finds on IKEA, or find a canvas in a thrift store and then paint it over.

Less stuff is better for small spaces

This tip is pretty self explanatory. If you live in a small space, I suggest you declutter and get rid of things. The sooner the better. At the beginning when we moved into our studio it felt like we needed bigger furniture. Two years later we did a huge organization and donated 5 big trashbags of clothes. If before we were complaining we had no place for clothes, now we have reduced from 2 closets to one. If you have a storage space make sure to use it and store anything you don't need in the basement or storage space.

For those with tons of items - closed furniture is key

The best tip how to make the house look clean and spacious is by putting everything where no one can see it. Wardrobe with doors, bookcase with some cabinets where you can also hide some stuff, or maybe a few boxes if using IKEA shelving units. Whether you are a messy person or a neat one, any items that are exposed to the room might make it seem a bit overcrowded. Instead of a clothing rack we swapped for a wardrobe that 1. has a mirror, and 2. all of our clothes are hidden and the place looks a lot cleaner. We do have opened bookcase with books, but that is more of a decoration aspect.

Look around your house and see if there is any furniture that could be swapped for a bigger one/ closed one and would make the room seem cleaner !

Mirrors will do the trick to make the living area seem bigger

If you are really looking into ways how to make the space seem more spacious, look for mirrors that you can put around the house. If you don't mind drilling, put one on the wall over the bed or on the living room area, so that the light reflects and fills up the room. Another way is to buy a wardrobe that already has a mirror!

Use multipurpose furniture to make use of the space

When it comes to furniture, seek out pieces that can be used in different ways. For example, IKEA has amazing beds with drawers underneath it, which gives lots of storage space. Maybe even you can get a sofa that is turned into bed at night. We have a table that we use as a dining table, and a small coffee table that we use for studying, eating and playing board games. We even use it as an extension for counter space when we are cooking a lot of food.
